Fort Dodge Area Symphony Brass Quintet & Orchestra Composition Competition
The Fort Dodge Area Symphony (Fort Dodge, Iowa) is seeking original compositions for Brass Quintet and Orchestra for our December 2016 Holiday Concert featuring the professional brass quintet Jive for Five!. Works must be written specifically for this competition and are not required to be holiday-themed. No arrangements or transcriptions will be accepted. Funding for this competition has been generously provided by the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association.
Score Submission Deadline: August 31, 2016 Announcement of Winner: September, 15, 2016 Quintet and Orchestral Parts Due: October 14, 2016 Premiere of Winning Composition: December 4, 2016
Application fee: None. Works must be postmarked by August 31, 2016 for consideration.
Guidelines
Entries should be written for:
Brass Quintet (2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba) and Orchestra where the Brass Quintet is featured soloist.
Works should not exceed ten (10) minutes in length. Works (3-5) minutes in length are ideal.
Orchestral Instrumentation must not exceed: 3222.2231.tmp+2.hrp.pno.str. Works for brass quintet and strings or brass quintet,
strings and a few wind/brass parts are also acceptable.
The Fort Dodge Area Symphony reserves the right to not select a winning submission.
Qualifications
Open to all composers born in Iowa, Iowa residents or who are currently studying at an Iowa College or University Prize: An honorarium of $500 and a performance by the Fort Dodge Area Symphony.
Rights/Performance Specifications
The composer will retain copyright of their work, but will dedicate the piece to the Fort Dodge Area Symphony with specific dedication wording to be agreed upon between composer and Symphony. The composer must also grant permission to the Fort Dodge Area Symphony for the performance of their work without royalties or additional payments (other than the promised honorarium) as well as for an archival recording to be produced.
