The Fifth Annual Morningside College
Choral Composition Contest
Sponsored by the Morningside College Performing Arts Department Postmark Deadline: Wednesday, February 3, 2016
Guidelines:
Mixed choir (SATB)
Unaccompanied or keyboard accompaniment
Three to five minutes’ duration
Unpublished works only
Rights to text must be cleared, and evidence of copyright holder’s permission must be shown
Secular or sacred, and suitable for public high school
Open to all composers (Morningside College faculty, staff, and students are not eligible.) Prizes and Performance:
Three scores will be selected for performance by high school choirs in concert April 26, 2016 at Morningside College.
First prize — $500; Second prize — $300; Third prize — $150
The top three finalists will be announced at http://music.morningside.edu by February 17, 2016.
The three finalists are required to be present at the performance of their work on April 26, 2016. Morningside College will reimburse travel expenses up to a maximum of $250. Lodging and food are the responsibility of the finalists.
Finalists will be asked to work with the participating ensembles that are performing their compositions.
Prizes will be announced at the April concert.
Morningside College reserves the right to not award prizes in a given year. Submission and Return Guidelines:
Entry fee of $25 per score. Make checks payable to Morningside College Music Department.
Include your name, address, phone number(s), email address, and social security number in a sealed envelope.
Names and other identifying information must not appear on the score.
Size of manuscript must not exceed 8 1/2″ by 14″
All scores selected for performance will be reproduced by Morningside College and all copies destroyed after the concert.
A private recording may be included with the submission but is not required.
No scores or recordings will be returned unless self-addressed mailers and postage are provided.
