NACUSA 2018 Great Plains Chapter Call for Scores, Papers, and Presentations (January 16)

The Great Plains Chapter of the National Association of Composers/USA is pleased to announce a call for scores, papers, and presentations for the 2018 NACUSA National Conference, March 16-18, 2018. We are excited to partner with William Jewel College, the National WWI Museum and Memorial, and the Kansas City Electronic Music and Arts Alliance (KcEMA). There are three concerts planned for the call; two featuring regional chamber ensembles and a third featuring electroacoustic works, also open to composer-provided performers, in collaboration with KcEMA. These concerts will be held in the Gano Chapel at William Jewel College and the J.C. Nichols Auditorium at the WWI Museum.

Composers may submit up to three scores for consideration. Only one score per composer may be selected for inclusion at the conference. Recordings and/or graphic scores may be sent in place of notated scores for the electroacoustic call.

Concert #1
March 16th, 7PM, at National WWI Museum and Memorial
Instrumentation: flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, cello, and/or mezzo-soprano
Works programmed on this concert must have some connection to WWI or that period in history. Works for mezzo-soprano should preferably stay within a range of G3 to G5.

Concert #2
March 17th, 2PM, at Gano Chapel at William Jewell College Instrumentation: flute, clarinet, violin, and/or cello

Concert #3
March 17th 7PM, at William Jewell College
Instrumentation: works featuring composer-provided performers, including electroacoustic works featuring digital arts, interactive media, or fixed media

All score submissions should be sent via email to Brad Cutcliffe (brad@cutcliffe.com) with the subject heading “NACUSA Call for Scores 2018 – YOUR NAME.” Include file-sharing links (via Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) to a folder with files according to naming conventions below.

All paper and presentation proposals should be sent to Greg Steinke (gregsteinke@mail.music- usa.org) and Brad Cutcliffe (brad@cutcliffe.com) with the subject heading “NACUSA Call for Papers/Presentations 2016 – YOUR NAME.”

All submissions are due January 16th, 11:59PM. Entrants must be current members of NACUSA and must attend the conference. Membership details may be found at the following link: https://www.music-usa.org/nacusa/mem_app.php4

FOR THE WWI LIBERTY MEMORIAL CONCERT, please place the following files in a folder named: NACUSA 2018 WWI Call – Last Name

  1. A PDF file of the score.
    The score file must be labeled as follows: WWI_lastname_firstname_title_score_NACUSA2018CALL
  2. An MP3 recording if available, MIDI realizations are acceptable. The recording file must be labeled as follows: WWI_lastname_firstname_title_recording_NACUSA2018CALL
  3. An information sheet including a brief composer bio (200 words or less) and program notes for the work.
    The information file must be labeled as follows: WWI_lastname_firstname_title_info_NACUSA2018CALL

FOR THE GANO CHAPEL CONCERT, please place the following files in a folder named: NACUSA 2018 GANO Call – Last Name

  1. A PDF file of the score.
    The score file must be labeled as follows: GANO_lastname_firstname_title_score_NACUSA2018CALL
  2. An MP3 recording if available, MIDI realizations are acceptable. The recording file must be labeled as follows: GANO_lastname_firstname_title_recording_NACUSA2018CALL
  3. An information sheet including a brief composer bio (200 words or less) and program notes for the work.

  1. A PDF file of the score, if available.

  3. An information sheet including a brief composer bio (200 words or less), program notes for the work, a description of technical requirements if applicable, and names and bios for performers if applicable.
