Orchestra Iowa/Cedar Rapids Symphony will be including several orchestral works by ICF members during its 2009-10 Season. The composers and pieces include Michael Gilbertson’s Vigil, Jerry Owen’s Tango, Jeffrey Prater’s Promise, Linda Robbins Coleman’s Lunatics and Lovers--A Symphonic Overture, Jeremy Beck’s Majestic River, Jonathan Chenette’s Rural Symphony, and Eric McIntyre’s Drive By.

“Getting an orchestral performance is an incredibly difficult feat for living composers, therefore, I’m thrilled that Maestro Hankewich and Orchestra Iowa have chosen to collaborate with this many composers with Iowa ties,” enthused ICF Chair Ralph Kendrick. “Tim Hankewich’s belief in local composers as a part of the larger orchestra community is such a valuable addition to Iowa, and we are very blessed to have his leadership in this area.”

Barring any scheduling complications due to the flooding of the Paramount Theatre, the orchestra intends to include one work by an ICF member on each of its Masterworks concerts for the season. The Orchestra is still trying to coordinate venues for each of its concerts.

Orchestra Iowa will also include a Clarinet Concerto by Michael Daugherty, who was born and raised in Cedar Rapids.

It should be a wonderful season – be sure to check out a concert or two!
