WCFSO Concert Finalized

Jason Weinberger, maestro of the Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony, has finalized the program for the May 10, 2008 WCFSO concert. Jeremy Beck’s Sinfonietta; Jon Chenette’s Oh Millersville!; Michael Gilbertson’s Polovitsia; Brooke Joyce’s october skies; and Jerry Owen’s Glee will be featured on the concert.
The works are quite varied in terms of ensemble size. Michael Gilbertson’s work is a nonette, Jeremy Beck’s piece is for string orchestra, and Jerry Owen’s composition is for full orchestra with a heavy dose of winds, brass, and percussion.

Two of the works on the program feature soloists. Jon Chenette’s Oh Millersville! is written for Soprano and Orchestra while Brooke Joyce’s october skies is a piano concerto.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the variety of this concert,” commented ICF Chair Ralph Kendrick. “You’ve got all of the bases covered in terms of instrumentation, and the artistic caliber of each of the pieces is top notch. The audience will be in for quite a show.”

In December, the ICF learned that it had received a $4,500 grant from the Waterloo Cedar Falls Community Foundation to help support this concert. This grant, along with the $8,500 grant from the Iowa Arts Council and the anticipated concert ticket income, allowed the ICF to secure the WCFSO for two rehearsals and the performance.

“Though $13,000 sounds like an awful lot of money, the concert simply would not be possible without the dedicated staff of the WCFSO,” Kendrick noted. “They’ve basically donated their time and energies toward making this concert a reality, and I can’t express how much we appreciate their efforts.”

Time to plan a May road trip to Cedar Falls to support your colleagues!
